Garoppolo Traded to the 49ers for a Second Round Pick
Well folks, the news we've been waiting to hear since the week before the 2017 draft took place has finally arrived. Jimmy Garoppolo has been traded to the San Francisco 49ers for a second round draft pick. Yes you read that correctly, a second round draft pick. Despite all the great moves and decisions the Patriots have made through the years, I find myself saying "In Bill I don't trust" with this move, and let me tell you why. Garoppolo has been in trade talks for the past two or three years, but it really reached a climax after his 2 wins during Tom Brady's "Deflategate" suspension last season. Then, talks of him being an NFL caliber quarterback really became a hot topic. There are many teams in the NFL right now lacking a true starting quarterback and Jimmy G instantly became a hot commodity. However my biggest issue with making this trade is when Coach Bellicheck decided to make it, and what he took in return for him. The Browns, who were at the top of the list in the Jimmy G sweepstakes were rumored to be willing to offer up two First Round draft picks. Two first round draft picks in a star studded first round including Garrett, Fournette and many more, and Garrett who through 3 games has 15 total tackles and 4 sacks, would help address the Patriots defense lack of pressure on the quarterback. I feel as if Bellicheck wasted a golden opportunity and practically gave up Garoppolo for pennies on the dollar. The other issue with the trade I have is that the Patriots traded their other quarterback on the roster to Indianapolis earlier this season. Being a New Englander, and a Patriots fan, I know we all think Tom Brady is a football god who will play into his 50's but it's just not gonna happen. The fact of the matter is, Brady's getting hit more often and harder than he's been in awhile. An injury could happen at any time to anyone, whether you're 22 or 40. His playing clock is running out whether he lasts 1 more game or 4 more years, and the Patriots not only lack a back up quarterback, but they also now lack a future starter who's spent years in the system. I think this move is a big mistake. But who knows? Maybe Bill will prove us all wrong again. That is usually the case. Let's hope he's already got something up his sleeve.
